Body Jewellery Measuring and Lengths
Barbell length is measured internally i.e. from ball fitting to ball fitting.

Unless stated otherwise barbell gauge will be 1.6mm and externally threaded (the bar has external threading and screws into the ball).
Ball closure rings (BCRs) are measured internally for diameter as shown in the diagram.

Unless otherwise stated BCRs are 1.6mm gauge and the ball will be a clip-in fitting.
The lenth of banana bars, belly bars and curved barbells is measured from ball to ball as shown.

Bar gauge is usually 1.6mm unless otherwise stated.

As a rough guide the 'standard' bar gauge for most new body piercings is 1.6mm. Once healed this can easily be reduced to a 1.2mm bar but do bear in mind that if you do so you may no longer be able to wear 1.6mm gauge jewellery in your piercing.

Body Plugs & Flesh Tunnels

For measuring body plugs the size given is the size of the 'saddle' of the plug i.e. the part that sits in your ear when the plug is fitted. This means that the actual diameter of the outside of the plug will usually be 1mm - 2mm larger so please ensure that you allow for this. This is intentional to ensure the item will actually fit into the hole snugly.

 For flesh tunnels or plugs with a 'straight' body (usually with either screw cap ends or bands for securing the item) the bar gauge is simply the diameter of the bar.
